Derby move on

Derby have booked their place in the Championship play-off final after a thrilling semi-final against Southampton. Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Southampton mounted a comeback but saw their dreams dashed as they lost in a penalty shoot-out.

A powerful header from Darren Moore put Derby up by two goals on aggregate within three minutes of the kickoff but Jhon Viafara was quick to get the Saints back within a goal. Viafara bagged his second of the night just after half-time after only to hand the lead back to Derby on a horrible own-goal from Leon Best. In the dying seconds Gregor Rasiak scored to take the game into extra-time. There was no breakthrough for either club in added time.

Derby won 4-3 in the penalty shoot-out and it went as follows:

Southampton:
Leon Best - MISSED (wide right)
Andrew Surman - SCORED
Rudi Skacel - SCORED
Grzegorz Rasiak - SCORED
Inigo Idiakez - MISSED (over the bar)

Derby:
David Jones - SCORED
Steve Howard - SCORED
Giles Barnes - SCORED
James McEveley - SCORED

One more step taken on our journey back to the Prem. A cracking tie with Southampton but alas my faithful Rams pulled through. The dream is still alive! Come on Derby!
